Oxidation removal is not magic and it is not a spray bottle. It is a step-by-step process, and each step has a job. Here is what happens to your hull.
Short answer
What are the steps of oxidation removal?
Oxidation is removed from gelcoat in four steps. The hull is washed and decontaminated. A machine compound cuts away the chalky layer. A polish refines the surface back to a gloss. Then wax, sealant, or ceramic coating protects it. Heavier oxidation takes more passes and more time.
Step 1: wash and inspect
The hull is washed so dirt and salt are not ground into the gelcoat during polishing. Then the oxidation is checked. Light, moderate, and heavy oxidation each need a different amount of cutting, and that decides the time frame and the quote.
Step 2: compound
A compound is an abrasive liquid used with a machine polisher. It cuts away the dead, chalky layer and exposes healthy gelcoat underneath. This is the step that does the heavy lifting, and on a badly oxidized boat it can take more than one pass.
Step 3: polish
Compounding leaves the surface clean but slightly hazy. A finer polish refines it and brings back clarity and depth. This is when the color and the gloss return.
What it looks like when it is done
A properly restored hull reflects clearly again. Colors look rich, white gelcoat looks white instead of yellow, and the chalk is gone. Water beads on the fresh protection. The difference is often most obvious on the topsides and transom, where the sun hits hardest.
Step 4: protect
Freshly polished gelcoat is bare, and it will oxidize again if it is left that way. The job finishes with marine wax or sealant, or a ceramic coating for the longest protection. The Doctor is a certified Ceramic Pro and System X installer.

Can oxidation be removed by hand?
Light haze can be improved by hand. Moderate and heavy oxidation need machine compounding to remove it evenly.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of the boat and the level of oxidation. The Doctor gives you a time frame with your free quote.
